His trip was one that outlined the border of the United States, going all throughout the North, through the Pacific Northwest, down into his native Salinas Valley, across to Texas, up through the Deep South, and then back to New York. He started his travels in Long Island, New York. He traveled throughout the United States in a specially made camper called Rocinante, named after the horse of Don Quixote. However, he found that the "new America" did not live up to his expectations. He had many questions going into his journey, the main one being "What are Americans like today". He wrote that he was moved by a desire to see his country on a personal level, since he made his living writing about it. It documents the driving trip he took with his poodle, Charley, around the United States in the 1960s. Travels with Charley: Search of America is a travelogue by American author John Steinbeck. ![]() You can help by adding new material ( learn how) or ask for assistance in the reading room. When family obligations forced Waxillium Ladrian to forsake the frontier lands and return to the metropolis of his birth to take his place as head of a noble House, he little imagined that the crime-fighting skills acquired during twenty years in the dusty plains would be just as applicable in the big city. ![]() Three hundred years after the events of the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads to supplement the canals, electric lighting in the streets and the homes of the wealthy, and the first steel-framed skyscrapers racing for the clouds. I recommend this book for those who want to listen to an intelligent story that is touched with mysticism and esotericism. And then found I couldn't sleep because I was wondering what was going to happen next! I found myself having to stop listening to go to sleep. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting? My favourite scene was the argument between the different prelates during dinner which is found later in the book. ![]() I also love Andre, a man who rests his entire life on reason, but realises at the end that it does not always provide a steady footing. I love the way that though he was only a scribe, he was always the one to figure out the most important clues. There is a Christian in all of us, part young man, part old man, doubtful, faithful, loyal to his master, but also questioning everything he does. Adriana Koulias' writing is very visual and the narrator was so good I felt like I was watching a movie. Full of historical authenticity which never gets in the way of the story, but makes it rich, like a tapestry. I love murder mysteries and this one is a cut above the rest. ![]() ![]() What did you love best about Temple of the Grail? ![]() ![]() ![]() John’s father was a famous photographer and John clearly resents him for having been a cold and downright abusive parent and husband. ![]() Photographers like John (as well as Dorothea Lange) were employed to document the lives of those struggling in order to publicize their plight to the American public in large-circulation magazines like Life. ![]() government agency operational from 1937-1946, tasked with mitigating rural poverty during the Great Depression. The team has undergone two major reboots during its run. Eventually, Superboy was removed from the team altogether and appeared only as an occasional guest star. Later, the Legion's origin and back story were fleshed out, and the group was given its own monthly comic.
